Finding cases by name or citation using Lexis Advance

This tutorial will show you how to find cases:

  • when you know the case name
  • when you know the case citation. 
You might find case names and citations in your readings, textbooks, other cases, and the reference lists of other material.
 
You'll also learn how to establish which legislation was considered by the case and its treatment by subsequent courts.

A-Z Databases

How to access Lexis Advance (Research & US Research)

We are starting at the A-Z Database list.
• Click L
• Click Lexis Advance
• Enter your username and password
• You are now in Lexis Advance (Research & US Research)

Your screen should look like this:

Finding a case by party name

Let's find the full text for this case:
 
Morrison v Peacock (2002) 210 CLR 274
 
Use the Quick Find option. In the Case Name section, enter Morrison v Peacock.
 
Tip: use v (not vs).
